Land Use Planning, Swiss Style

This is the wonderful Kambly Cookie Factory in Trubschachen, where free samples abound!

And this is the view across the tracks! This factory is out in the country, on the edge of a small village, very typical of many places in Switzerland!

Welcoming the travelers

At the airport with Cyrus and Kendra. Don't they look remarkably non-jet-lagged? Ah, youth!

Ladybugs and Beetles

I think the ladybug must be the Swiss National Insect. We have seen lots of chocolate "Kafers", but these "Maienkäfer" made out of bread dough were something new to me.

Ready for Summer!

New flags are flying from most of the buildings. I hadn't noticed how faded the old ones were until they were replaced with bright new ones!

Pres. and Sister Psota

In our mission, we have many "bosses." The Mission President is one, the Stake President is another, and the CES coordinator is yet another. (The Area President and the Institute Director round out the list.) Pres. Psota is a counselor in the Stake Presidency, and he is also the CES coordinator. He oversees Seminary and Institute in Switzerland, Italy, and all the countries in the Eastern European south area. He is a master teacher, and a wonderful person to work with. We feel so blessed to be able to learn from him. His wife is from Finland, and the sweetest lady. They have six children, and all of them have served missions--the youngest just got his mission call to Greece.

Highlight Abend Food

Three recently-returned missionaries gave presentations on their missions to Spain, Japan and England. They asked for food from each country. Apple pie and custard from England was easy. For sushi from Japan, I made candy sushi. One day's preparation is shown here--four pies and two plates of "sushi", with a sour jelly candy for the center, Rice Krispy treat outside, and green marzipan for the seaweed.

Ready!

All the food is dished out and ready! The pies are all cut into 32 pieces (we brought out more as these disappeared). Vanilla custard made with 8 egg yolks and 2 cups of cream is in a bowl for the pies. Two plates of candy sushi, and 19 servings of the potato tortilla are set out. In 20 minutes, it was all gone!

Dishes and Dishes! Oh My!

All the food has been served, and is being devoured. While the kitchen looked like this, I decided to go visit with the young people. The dishes can (and did) wait.

The kitchen at 10PM

You can see that my wonderful companion has rinsed and stacked the dishes, and is making a valiant attempt at reducing the pile. I came to his rescue, and we finished in an hour.

Springtime at the old house

March 28, I posted a picture of this house with its "winter clothes" on. With all the leaves gone, you could see the house clearly. Now it is Spring, and the house is almost hidden! You can tell by the pole in the picture that the angle is the same. What a difference 6 weeks makes!
