Here is part of the street sweeping crew. He is sweeping up the "Streugut", literally "scattering stuff." They don't use much salt, preferring instead this small gravel. Then, at the end of the season, they sweep it up and deposit it in boxes spaced along the streets, ready to use for next year.

  1. That is so much smarter than the way we do it here. Sigh. I wish we could learn and do as they do.... recycle and leave no salt behind!

  2. I thought those were so old-fashioned for a modern country like Switzerland! But Lenski assured me, and I've tested them, they really sweep better than ours for the purpose they are used.
